Biography

Luciana Savaget

The stories that I write are woven by the lines of a smile, the twinkle of an eye, an expression of innocence… in one word, by everything I’ve lived in my childhood and that since today stimulates me to live always in a dream.

I love the world of dreams!
It’s like being in a place where everything is the opposite of what it usually is… It’s like seeing life from the outside. In the world of books, where dreams dwell, everything is different. We can transform ourselves into anything we want, at any time: into a mermaid, a witch, or into a simple spectator that’s watching a star fall from the sky.
When we, writers, create a story, we want every word to exist forever in the gesture, the glance and the voice that take us to the immense world of imagination, that place where lies the very air we breathe through literary creation.
I’m Brazilian and was born in Rio de Janeiro.
I usually say that I grew up believing in everything that is magical. That’s why I write for children.
My books are also being read in Palestine.
I translated to Portuguese the book “My life with Pablo Neruda”, written by his wife Matilde Urrutia.
I’m also a journalist, currently working for the cable network GloboNews.
I’ve won several prizes. I’m very proud of having been elected “Personality of the International Year of the Child”. In 1993 I received the Merit Award in the New York International Film and TV Festival for a show about working children, broadcasted by Globo Network. In 2002, I won the very important Vladimir Herzog prize.
This is my universe, and it has that very special flavor that only the heart produces and transmits.
